What’s a cookie?

A “cookie” is a small text file that is stored on your computer and which records how you move your way around a website so that, when you revisit that website, it can present tailored options based on the information stored about your last visit. Cookies can also be used to analyze traffic and for advertising and marketing purposes.

Cookies are used by nearly all websites and do not harm your system.

You can adjust the cookies you allow for this site using the “Cookie Settings” tab at the bottom right of the page. Choose “Accept All” to accept all cookies or “No, Adjust” to adjust which categories of cookies you want to allow.

You can also check or change what types of cookies you accept within your browser settings. You can block cookies at any time by activating the setting on your browser that allows you to refuse the setting of all or some cookies. However, if you use your browser settings to block all cookies (including essential cookies) you may not be able to access all or parts of this site.

How does this site use cookies?

Cookies are used to track your use of this website. This enables me to understand how you use the site and track any patterns with regards how you are using this website. This helps me to develop and improve my website and services in response to what you might need or want.

Types of Cookies

Session cookies

These are only stored on your computer during your web session and are automatically deleted when you close your browser – they usually store an anonymous session ID allowing you to browse a website without having to log in to each page but they do not collect any personal data from your computer.

Persistent cookies

A persistent cookie is stored as a file on your computer and it remains there when you close your web browser. The cookie can be read by the website that created it when you visit that website again. This site uses persistent cookies for Google Analytics.

Categories of Cookies

Strictly necessary cookies

Strictly necessary cookies are essential to enable you to use the website effectively and therefore cannot be turned off. Without these cookies, the services available to you on my website cannot be provided. These cookies do not gather information about you that could be used for marketing or remembering where you have been on the internet.

Cloudflare

I use Cloudflare for security and performance. Cloudflare installs the the cookie: __cfduid. This cookie is strictly necessary for Cloudflare’s security features and cannot be turned off. You can read more about this cookie on their website.

Analytics / Performance cookies

These cookies enable me to monitor and improve the performance of my website. For example, they allow me to count visits, identify traffic sources and see which parts of the site are most popular.

It is important to me to create a great user experience. In order to do so I need to learn how my users navigate through my site and where they may run into problems. To do this, I use the following third party service that sets cookies on my site: Google Analytics.

Google Analytics

I use Google Analytics to better understand my website traffic and how visitors navigate the pages of this site. I also get information on which browsers and devices visitors use to access my website and how they are referred to my site.

The information generated by the cookie is usually transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. I have activated IP anonymization. Your IP address will be shortened by Google within the European Union or other parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area prior to transmission to the United States. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address sent to a Google server in the US and shortened there. The IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics will not be merged with any other data held by Google.

Google Analytics is operated by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. For more information about privacy related to Google Analytics, read their Privacy Policy. You can opt-out of Google Analytics globally by using Google’s Opt-out Browser add-on. To disable Google Analytics for this site only, you can use the cookie settings tab at the bottom right of the page to adjust your cookie settings. Disable the “Analytics” category to disable Google Analytics.

Functional cookies

These cookies are used to enhance functionality and allow for personalization, such as scheduling meetings, videos and the use of social media. These cookies may be set by third party service providers, whose digital services have been added. If you do not allow these cookies, some of these functionalities may not work properly.

Calendly

I used Calendly to schedule phone calls and meetings. Calendly installs the cookies: _calendly_session and referrer_user_id to allow the meeting scheduler to function. See Calendly’s privacy policy for more information.
